Objective

Preparation of digital topographic maps of two districts in Romania

Description:

AABSyS produced digital topographic maps of two regions in Romania. With the help of the digital topography maps, effects of earthquakes on the region can be studied. Scanned topography maps (in TIFF format) of two earthquake-prone regions of Romania, Onesti and Cimpuri, were digitized. The topological information such as contour lines (elevation), main roads, side roads, rivers, lakes, and geographic information such as vegetation lines, state and district boundaries were digitized in specified layers of the topography maps. The contour lines were drawn as per the elevation information provided on the scanned topography maps. This allowed the development of a 3-D elevation model of the districts. The digital topographic maps were merged to obtain a single map and were delivered in DGN format. Further analysis in Mapinfo systems on the effects of earthquakes on the geography of the region can be performed.
